Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Beyond being a great scientist, Mr. Peabody was also a great father. Yet he had to discover the importance of saying “I love you” to his son, something that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Frozen

No one who sees this film can possibly leave the theater without a smile on your face. Enter at your own risk.

47 Ronin

Not as entertaining as last year’s raucous The Man With the Iron Fist, but my 15-year old grandson really liked the film. Enough said.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Remember the song about the kindly “Puff, the magic dragon”? (Peter Paul and Mary (1963)).  Smaug certainly doesn’t.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Rating: Katniss Everdeen is a female Robin Hood, so get to the theater and watch the Sheriff of Nottingham’s knees start to buckle.

Nebraska

Rating: This is a gripping story about the consequences of growing old. Bruce Dern is remarkable, but June Squibb should win an Oscar for her role as his put-upon wife, a demonic angel.

Thor: The Dark World and All is Lost

Rating: Simply stated, forget the national critics. Without Redford, All Is Lost is a waste of time. Yet, Thor: The Dark World is a rollicking fun time.

Captain Phillips

Rating: Whatever your feelings are about this film, let me warn you if you are prone to sea sickness. If so, I’d save your popcorn bag after you finish it.

The Wolverine

Rating: Who else but Hugh Jackman could drift from playing the Wolverine to hosting the Oscars in 2009? Come on, aren’t you a bit curious?
