Commentary on the Movies
While I will be submitting some additional reviews through December 30th, you will have to excuse me as I take a leave of absence. More to the point, Mo and I leave on a trip to the Far East that begins in Hong Kong.
We’ll spend a few days there, then start a cruise to Vietnam and Thailand, flying back to the States from Singapore. It ought to be one gigantic adventure, so I’ll have to catch up on several films when I return.
On the other hand, I won’t overlook the opportunity to watch a movie in a foreign land. I did it decades ago in France where I watched a Woody Allen movie that was in English with French subtitles. The irony was that when I laughed, it was always followed a second later by the rest of the audience. It was quite fun in its own right, so we’ll see if I can recreate it in China or its neighbors.
To be honest, my only slight regret in leaving on December 30th is that I will miss Tarentino’s The Hateful Eight and Iñárritu’s The Revenant. I have high hopes for both, so you will have to let me know what you think upon my return.
Let me close by referring to the fact that Mo and I watched the great series Lonesome Dove last weekend. It is an extraordinary TV series based upon an equally extraordinary novel by Larry McMurtry, and it was a reminder about how important it is to make sure that life includes adventure.
Hunt down Lonesome Dove if you get a chance, and you won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, Mo and I will play a married version of Gus and Woodrow as we go on our own “cattle drive”.
