Blonde
Easily the worst film of 2022.
While I have always been a fan of Marilyn Monroe, this is a terrible movie from beginning to end. Lasting 2 hours, 46 minutes, it concentrates on her miserable personal life while paying little attention to her great films such as How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), The Seven Year Itch (1955), Some Like it Hot (1959), and The Misfits (1961).
Ana de Armas gives a powerful 5-minute performance as Marilyn Monroe. Tragically, she repeats herself so often that you are left shaking your head in disgust. In between screams, she moans and groans about a regrettable abortion that left her motherless and a father she has never met.
None of the supporting cast helps this mess which includes Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody playing ex-husbands Joe DiMaggio and playwright, Arthur Miller. In particular, wait until you see DiMaggio beat her after he sees her in the memorable movie scene where her dress blows up over her head while standing on a sidewalk grate.
And while there are a number of tedious moments in the historically wretched film, wait for the scene where Marilyn is compelled to first masturbate and then give oral sex to President Kennedy. Marilyn’s face is filmed in a close-up, and it is no wonder that she died at age 36 from a drug overdose in 1962.
The only thing that would have helped this movie is if she had died sooner.
