Hammerle Oscar Nomination Commentary
As many of you know, the Oscar nominations will be announced tomorrow morning. Since shame is not one of my personal weaknesses, I care about these nominations for reasons better off not discussed.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence attend a screening of “Silver Linings Playbook”
While I will save observations for a later date, let me first simply say that Silver Linings Playbook has to be nominated for Best Picture. In addition, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro need to be recognized for the same reason.
Though this has been another weak year for animated films, I also hope that The Secret Life of Arrietty is also finally recognized. It is a fantastic film, and deserves this attention.
Since I am still bitter about Meryl Streep’s unjustified award last year, I assume that The Master will be nominated for something. With all due respect, it deserves no recognition other than possibly the performance of Joaquin Phoenix, but Hollywood always seems to go down this goofy path in recent years. As noted in earlier reviews, think of last year’s The Tree of Life and Melancholia.

Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master”
Finally, I sincerely hope that Pitch Perfect and The Perks of Being a Wallflower receive some deserved nomination. Along that same line, how long can those responsible for the nominations honor a film like The Master that almost no one saw and leave popular, genuinely sensational movies like The Dark Knight Rises and Skyfall on the outside looking in?
I’ll hold further comment until tomorrow, so enjoy the moment.
Hammerle, I’m impressed!
