Commentary on Christmas

Christmas lights

As I have noted before, no one loves the Christmas season more than me. I treasure the family gatherings and it is a joy going on my daily coffee drives where Christmas lights and decorations bring a smile to my face.

But suddenly Christmas is over and houses and attached yards return to normal. It feels like the social togetherness inspired by Christmas has been tucked away in a basement or attic. We are left with daily news shows focusing on Trump, which drowns out the remaining joy produced by Santa Claus.

While this may sound a bit foolish, I find it interesting that some people delay taking down their outside decorations. Lights remain hooked to their roof gutters and a few have inflated Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse and deer replicas in their yards.

I still find late January to be a fading season to be jolly. Only 10 more months before we recapture the Christmas spirit. Yet for me, “All is calm, all is bright” last the entire year.
